Alvarado High School’s student-led news program, The Rez, is expanding its reach to the junior high and intermediate school this year.
Beginning this year, students at AJH and, for the second year, students at AIS will be producing periodic newscasts for their respective schools.
“We had great success last year and have grown to 50 students this year,” AIS teacher Erica Peteet said. “This is the second time high school students have come to train our intermediate staff and we look forward to continued support and partnership with The Rez.”
Junior high students spent time at Alvarado High School learning the ins and outs of producing a newscast from current Rez members. Earlier this week, high school students traveled to AIS to train sixth graders on producing their own show.
The junior high school will be called The Spear while the intermediate newscast will be called the Tribe.
“Having these two student broadcast teams, The Tribe and The Spear, will not only be a wonderful addition to the schools they cover, but these students will be coming into the high school with broadcasting experience,” AHS teacher Patrick Neary said.
