An Indian football player makes a catch at the State 7-on-7 Tournament

Alvarado football has been hard at work this summer, perfecting its craft against elite competition. The Indians were one of only 14 programs across the state that qualified for both the State 7-on-7 Tournament and State Lineman Challenge in late June.

This year marked the first time the Indians qualified for the State 7-on-7 Tournament. The Indians won the McClennan County qualifier in early May, knocking off Stephenville in the final game to earn the automatic bid.

The State Tournament, held in College Station, got off to a rough start for the Indians as they lost to Austin LBJ 33-19 and failed to convert an extra point in the final minute against Brookshire-Royal in a 21-20 loss.

After a storm postponed the last game of Pool Play, the Indians' fortunes changed on Friday morning. Alvarado beat LaGrange 28-14 to close pool play and upended Glen Rose 21-13 in the first round of bracket play.

In their final game of the tournament, the Indians fell to eventual semi-finalist Kilgore, 20-0.
