3,700 Students in AISD; 1,100 at Alvarado High School;
New Superintendent appointed in January, 2015;
Academics
2016 graduate was named a Gates Millennium Scholar - one of only 132 in Texas;
Alvarado graduates represent three of the only 50 students in Tarleton State University's Presidential Honors Program;
Special Education Department has a very active parent advisory committee and support group called Parent2Parent that raises awareness of autism in the school district and community;
28 Alvarado High School students qualified and participated in the UIL regional academic meet and one moved on to the UIL state academic meet in 2016;
Lillian Elementary was recognized by TEA as a Title I Reward School for earning a distinction in reading while over 40% of its population is considered low income;
Technology
AJHS Robotics team placed 12th at state in 2018;
Alvarado High School had a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) environment that offers connectivity to students' personal devices, such as laptops, smartphones and tablets;
Alvarado Junior High, Alvarado Elementary North, Alvarado Elementary South and Lillian Elementary are all outfitted with SmartBoard technology;
School districts come in from across the state to see the technology that Alvarado ISD is using at Alvarado Intermediate School - Interwrite tablets, laptops, projectors, document cameras, etc.;
First public school district in the state to provide laptops for every 4-6 grade student. In August 2010, the program was extended students in grades 7 and 8;
Won an InfoWorld 100 Award in 2010 for having one of the top 100 technology initiatives in the world, Alvarado ISD was one of only two school districts in the country to receive this award;
Fine Arts
Alvarado Junior High Spirit squad consistently ranks among the top cadet teams in the North Texas Colorguard Association and placed FIRST at the NTCA Championships in March, 2016, 3rd place in 2018;
Alvarado High School BUDDIES program was the first inclusionary color guard in the state and won first place in its division in 2016;
Alvarado High School BUDDIES program has won first place in Special Needs class three years in a row, 2016-2018;
AHS varsity colorguard 1st at NTCA championships Scholastic AA class, 2018
Alvarado High School choir had two all-state members in 2018 and has had at least one student earn All-State honors the last eight years and 17 of the last 18 years;
Alvarado High School band had three all-state members in 2018 and has had at least two for seven straight years, including at least three in three of the last five years;
Alvarado High School ag department is one of the best in the state. Ag students are consistently some of the top winners at events like the Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio stock shows;
Alvarado High School Sr. Farms Skills placed 5th at state in 2018 and Jr. Quiz Skills placed 7th at state in 2018;
Alvarado High School has multiple agriculture students who compete and place at the state level in judging contests each year, including Wool Judging, Horse Judging and Farm Business Management in 2015;
Alvarado High School art students have qualified to participate in the Texas State Visual Arts Scholastic Event in four of the last five years;
Alvarado High School had 29 students qualify and participate at the Texas State Technology Student Association contest in 2018;
Alvarado High School had students qualify and participate in the National Technology Student Association contest in 2018 in On Demand Video and have had at least one team advance to the national level each of the last eight years;
Alvarado High School One Act Play has advanced to Area for nine of the last 11 years;
Alvarado High School JROTC has repeatedly been recognized as an Honor Program with Distinction;
Alvarado High School FCCLA named regional Most Improved Chapter in 2018;
Alvarado High School FCCLA had one student qualify for state competition in 2018;
Athletics
AHS volleyball team made the playoffs for the fifth time in seven years in 2018;
AHS boys cross country team had two individuals run at the state meet in 2015, including a second place overall finish, and as a team the Indians placed second at state in 2013;
AHS cross country team won six straight boys district championships from 2010-2015 and have won four straight girls district champion ships;
In 2016 the girls cross country team advanced to state for the first time and had an individual STATE CHAMPION - the first state championship won by any girl at AHS;
AHS girls cross country team placed third at the state meeting in 2016 and 2017;
AHS girls cross country qualified for state for the third time in a row in 2018;
AHS football team has advanced to the playoffs for nine straight years, including a state championship game appearance in 2011;
AHS girls basketball team made the playoffs three years in a row from 2013-2015;
AHS boys basketball team made the playoffs six straight years from 2010-2015, including a regional tournament appearance in 2011;
AHS baseball team earned its fourth straight playoff appearance in 2015, clinched the school's first district championship in 30 years in 2013 and advanced to the regional quarterfinals in 2013 and 2014;
AHS tennis team earned 14 of District 7-4As 16 regional berths, including four of five district champions in 2016, has had players at the state tournament in 2014 and 2015;
AHS team tennis squad qualified for the regional tournament in 2014 and 2015;
AHS team tennis reached the regional quarterfinals in 2018;
AHS softball team made the playoffs for the second straight year, just the third time its happened in the school's history;
AHS softball team won the school's first district championship in 2018;
AJH boys track team set several records in 2014;
AHS boys track team had a bronze medalist in the Shot Put in 2018, a silver medalist in the 3,200m run in 2015 and 2016 and had a STATE CHAMPION pole vaulter in 2012;
AHS girls track team earned district and area championships in 2015;
AHS girls track team had a STATE CHAMPION in the 3200m run in 2017, a silver medalist in the 1600m run in 2017 and a state qualifier in the 3200m run in 2018;
AHS powerlifting boys team had an individual STATE and NATIONAL CHAMPION in 2014;
AHS powerlifting girls team had a state silver medalist in 2017, a STATE CHAMPION in 2016 and two state qualifiers in 2016;
AHS girls golf team qualified for the regional tournament for the third year in a row in 2015;
AHS girls soccer has advanced to the Area Round of the state playoffs in each of the last four years;
AHS boys soccer won the program's first playoff game in 2016 and advanced to the regional round of the playoffs;
Teachers
For the last six years AISDs Elementary and Secondary Teacher of the Year have been finalists for Region 11 Teacher of the Year;
Despite cuts in state funding in 2011, AISD only cut staff through attrition;
In 2015, AISD gave across the board raises of 3%;
The average experience of Alvarado ISD teachers is 10 years;
Every teacher in the district meets the state's highly-qualified standards;
Finance
Superior FIRST (Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas) rating;
Saved district taxpayers $7 million over the last 10 years in buying back and refinancing bonds;
Despite cuts in state funding, AISDs fund balance (savings account) is in excess of $12 million due to conservative budgeting;
Before passing a bond in May 2013, the district only increased taxes once in previous eight years. Before 2013, taxes had dropped 41.4 cents since 2005-2006;
Bond
In May 2013, voters passed a $38.2 million bond to build a new junior high and for improvements to academic areas to Alvarado High School;
Any money not used for those two projects will be used to pay down the districts indebtedness in order to keep taxes as low as possible;
