AISD Re-Opening Plan

The following are a few reminders and announcements about how things like Meet the Teacher will work this year and also our extended school day.

LOGIN HELP:
Elementary scholar information will be posted in SeeSaw and secondary scholar information will be posted in Google Classroom. Please log in to the appropriate platform for information and assigned tasks. Scholars are not required to be signed in at specific times. They must however complete each day's tasks on that day. (See AISD Reopening Plan pp 26-30.)
Should your scholars experience any difficulty with accessing their Chromebooks or learning platforms, please email studenttech@alvaradoisd.net or call 817-783-6851. Please be aware that we may be experiencing a high volume of calls and emails. Should you need to leave a message, please include name and callback number.

REOPENING PLAN: A change was made the Re-Opening Plan document that states the Texas Education Agency now recommends the use of a face mask and a shield for all students. We will not be requiring both, but we wanted to make sure you were aware of the recommendation. Here is a link to the updated plan. Alvarado ISD Re-Opening Plan.pdf

CALENDAR: A couple weeks ago, Alvarado ISD School Board voted to move the first day of school for students to Aug. 24. You can see an updated calendar with new grading periods here. 2020-2021 Calendar new.pdf

SCHOOL DAY LENGTH: The Texas Education Agency no longer counts physical days toward the school year, but now requires a certain number of minutes. Anything above the required minutes allows the school to miss days without having to make them up - similar to Bad Weather Days that are no longer included in our calendar. With anticipation that there may be a shutdown at some point this year, we have elected to add 15 minutes to the end of each day instead of adding days at the end of the calendar in June. Our school day will now go from 8 a.m. - 3:45 p.m. at all campuses.

MEET THE TEACHER: Unfortunately, due to the situation we are in, we will not be holding our traditional Meet the Teacher Night in person. Parents and scholars are encouraged to visit the AISD campus websites on August 20 to view custom videos created by educators under the educators’ staff directory page. We want parents and scholars to learn more about their teacher prior to the start of the school year. Parents and scholars will also have an opportunity to have conversations with teachers via email from 4-6 p.m. on August 20. Parents may also request one on one virtual meetings with teachers by email request.

PRE-K/KINDER FIRST DAY PROCEDURES: Parents who would like a special moment with their scholar as they start Pre-K or Kindergarten this year may take advantage of a staggered start time on August 24th. Pre-K drop off will be in front of each elementary from 8:15-8:45 a.m. Kindergarten drop off will be in the back of each elementary from 8:15:-8:45 a.m. Parents are asked to remain in their vehicles during this time. Students will be greeted by teachers. We will make this a special moment for scholars! Parents may take photos of their scholars as they walk to their first day of school.

SCHEDULES/TEACHERS: Letters and post cards with your elementary scholar’s teacher name will be mailed Monday. Junior High schedules will be available in Skyward Family Access on Monday and Intermediate schedules will be available Tuesday. High School schedules are available in Skyward Family Access now.

REGISTRATION: If you have not already registered your returning student, we encourage you to do so as soon as possible so we can finalize plans for the upcoming school year.
