2022 Bond Package

Voters in Alvarado ISD passed both bond propositions on May 7, 2022.

The $125 million will fund the following:

  • New Elementary School to Replace Alvarado Elementary North (750 student capacity with core facilities for 1000)

  • Expand Lillian Elementary School (750 student capacity with core facilities for 750)

    • Upgraded safety features
    • Replacement of HVAC units
    • Replacement of roof
    • Adding storm shelter
    • Additional classrooms
    • Paving improvements
    • Wastewater improvements
  • Convert Alvarado Intermediate School to Alvarado Elementary South (1000 student capacity with core facilities for 1000)

    • Replacement of roof
    • Replacement of HVAC
    • Repair of canopies
  • Add a Competition Gym at Alvarado High School

    • Additional gym space
    • Additional spectator seating
  • Replace the softball and baseball fields at Alvarado High School
    • Repair drainage issues
    • New field base & surface
    • Covered spectator seating

The package will address residential growth in and around Alvarado, adding approximately 500 seats for PreK-5th grades and replacing facilities that have aging and failing infrastructure.  This bond package is a part of a district master facility plan that has been developed over the span of several years. Projects from the 2019 bond began a process of grade realignment across the district, and this bond would complete that long-term grade realignment, with PreK-5th grade elementary schools, a 6th-8th grade junior high school, and a 9th-12th grade high school. This will mean fewer changes and transitions for students and greater operational efficiency and cost savings for the district.

Student Enrollment Forecast

We have listed the planned schedule below.

2019 Bond Package

In 2016, the district hired Huckabee Architects to do a comprehensive facility needs assessment and to work with the district to develop a long term facility master plan.  Upon the completion of the needs assessment the Board put together a facility steering committee of citizens to study the districts needs and make a recommendation to the Board.  This committee began their work in the spring of 2019 and met five times before making a recommendation to the school board to call for a bond election to add a wing to the junior high.  Adding the wing to the junior high:

  • Allowed the district to move sixth grade to the junior high campus and third grade to the intermediate school campus.

  • Created room for growth at our elementary schools

  • Moved our district closer to the grade alignment that we would ultimately like to be at.
In November 2019, the community approved the bond package, and the project was completed in the summer of 2021.
