For the last 25 years Alvarado High School’s fine arts departments has proven to be consistent in its pursuit of excellence as for the 24th time in those 25 years, AHS has at least one scholar earning All-State recognition for either choir or band.
In a region that includes many of the state’s top 4A bands, Alvarado had three earn the state’s highest honor as part of the Texas Small School Bands All-State Band.
Those making the band were Charlie Redding, flute; Kayla Sepeda, clarinet; Allison Garner, saxophone.
“I’m not surprised by the success of our students,” band director Patrick Dietz said. “They have taken their talent to a superior level through their work ethic.”
For two of the honorees it was their third time earning all-state honors as seniors Sepeda and Garner will be making a return trip to San Antonio in February for the all-state clinic and concert. Redding, a sophomore, earned all-state honors for the first time.
Alvarado’s three all-state band members was the second most in the region with Carter-Riverside earning four spots.
