Several Alvarado High School scholars spent the first part of their Thanksgiving break attending and competing at the Texas Thespians State Festival.
Last year’s festival provided the best results ever for the AHS thespian troupe. This year, they exceeded those and added a couple more first-time honors.
“TTSF is always a highlight of our year with AHS Theatre,” director Luke Hunt said. “Our success at last year’s festival may have been intimidating to try to repeat, but the scholars in this year’s troupe stepped up to the challenge.”
AHS qualified less scholars (9) for this year’s International Thespian Festival at the University of Indiana, but in more events (7) than even before. Less than half of this year’s qualifying scholars are seniors. Eden King, who qualified in the Solo Musical is the first freshman to qualify and Angelina Easterly is the first theatre technician to qualify from AHS.
Others qualifying for the event next summer were Aleese Wilson (Monologue Acting), Jazlyn Scott (Monologue Acting), Bee Crowe (Monologue Acting), Brianna Ryan and Alexis Buchert (Duet Acting), and Elijah Poole and Elijah Westmoreland (Duet Musical).
The hair and makeup team of Dakota O’Relly, Angelina Easterly, Brianna Ryan, and Meric Colbert placed third overall in a field of 44 designs.
Every other scholar that competed in a national qualifying individual event scored a rank of ‘Excellent.’
“Once again I am proud to say that Alvarado High School qualified more students to the International Thespian Festival than any other school in Johnson County.”
