Staggered Start

Alvarado ISD will implement a staggered start model for the 2025-2026 school year. We recognize that the new schedule may require some adjustments for families, scholars, and educators.

Some of the benefits of a staggered start model are shorter time on buses for most scholars, no mixing of elementary and secondary scholars on buses, less traffic on Cummings during peak hours, and it would help the district in attracting and retaining bus drivers by offering the opportunity for more hours.

Most of the feedback we received centered around the gap between start times. We are excited to let you know we were able to reduce the gap between Elementary and Secondary start times by 10 minutes since the proposed schedule was released in April.

New Schedule:
Elementary (PreK-5th Grade)
Elementary Bus Drop Off at School - 7 a.m.
Elementary Doors Open/Breakfast Served - 7 a.m.
Elementary Classes Start - 7:30 a.m.
Elementary Dismissal - 3 p.m.

Secondary (6th-12th Grade)
Secondary Bus Drop Off at School - 8:05 a.m.
Secondary Doors Open/Breakfast Served - 8:05 a.m.
Secondary Classes Start - 8:35 a.m.
Secondary Dismissal - 4:05 p.m.

After School Program

For those with elementary scholars looking for an after school program, the YMCA is offering Club Excel at each of the elementary schools for the upcoming year. The program will be at each elementary campus from 3-6 p.m. Information and pricing are at the link below.
