All four Alvarado High School students who auditioned for a chance to advance to the final round of All-State choir competition made the most of their opportunity last weekend and moved on to the final state in January.

“The students had to learn some very challenging music, including a piece in Latin and a piece in German,” said AHS choir director Edward Smith. “They audition before a panel of five judges.”

In order to advance, the students had to score in the top 8 of their voice part.

Diana Velazquez (alto) and Faith Waugh (soprano) each received second chair in their respective sections. Seth Boterf earned fourth chair in the bass section and Brandan Turner received the designation of first alternate for placing 9th chair.

The final round of all-state auditions will take place on January 12 at the University of Texas-Arlington.
